Social Networking

Social Networking

As the Internet grows, Social Networking is playing a larger role. With Facebook becoming the largest of Social Networks, I was pleasantly surprised that they added Pages for someone to set up a business store front. And with the release of the Facebook API, Web Developers have an easier time automating the Facebook Page from other sources.
When Google+ forayed into Social Networking, it took a while, but they too added page support for businesses. And there are rumors, which as far as I know are unsubstantiated, that a Google+ Page will increase your SEO better than Facebook because Google is the major driving force behind SEO. Now A number of companies would love to update a Google+ Page as easily as Facebook, but the Google+ API has not been made available for that yet.
Then there is Twitter, while Twitter doesn’t appear to be geared for businesses, it doesn’t need to be. I see Twitter is like the Krispy Kreme “Fresh Donuts Now” sign, shining out there for everyone to see, but only looked at by those watching. Which makes sharing business information rather easy.
There is another Social Networking site that is worth mentioning, LinkedIn. While LinkedIn is a great site, not only for individuals seeking employment with companies, it is a good forum for B2B (business to business) type companies to be “social” and inter-relate as businesses and not people. While I do think that it could be a great place for recruitment, and it is, there is also a limited API that doesn’t allow posts from WordPress as yet.
Social Networking has become a great way to meet people with out having to leave your home or office. Now while I do like the “belly to belly” method (or face to face), the power of the internet has made it a lot faster and a lot easier to broaden the scope and range of people being met with. Face to face limits you to the venue that your are in, as apposed to the internet allowing across the country of even the world.Mbr>
